Recipe : Famous Tofu Pepes ( Pepes Tahu)
Tofu Pepes or also known as Pepes Tahu is one of favourite homemade dish which you can find at many restaurant in Indonesia. Pepes Tahu made from steamed tofu with spices which wrapped up with banana leaves. But you can also grill to have a smoke taste. Many variant nowadays of pepes like, tofu mushroom pepes, fish pepes, chicken pepes and many more. Now lets make your own tofu pepes!
Main Ingredient :
- 4 Medium Tofu sized
- 4 Shallots
- 4 garlic cloves
- 3 candlenuts
- 5 red chillies
- 5 red bird eye chillies
- 2 phalange sized turmeric
- 1 eggs
- More birds eye chillies
- 1 tsp sugar
- Salt to taste
- 4 banana leaves
- 1/2 of Basil bunch ( take the leaves)
How To Make :
- Smash the tofu by hand or fork.
- Grind the shallots, garlic cloves, red bird eye chillies, turmeric,red chillies and candlenuts to a smooth paste.
- Add the smooth paste to the tofu, add salt and sugar. Mix it well.
- Add basil and the other bird eye chillies.
- Add egg, mix it well.
- Wrap it up on banana leaves.
- Steamed for 15 - 20 minutes. If you want to have some smoke taste, you can grill it after steamed.
- Pepes Tahu ready to serve!
